Arrow of Honor Painting Guide

Special thanks to Cub Scout Pack 49, New Lenox, IL

Arrow of Honor – This is also known as the Career Arrow and is given to each graduating Webelos Scout. It is decorated by the Webelos den leaders with colored bands. Usually the Warrior Arrow is used, but the other arrows are also acceptable.  Each colored band on the arrow shaft signifies achievements the boys have earned on their journey through Cub Scouting. The bands may differ on arrows depending on the achievements each boy has earned. The arrows are usually mounted by the den leaders on a plaque constructed or purchased by the den leaders. The arrow can also be mounted on a Trophy Skin.

There are many variations on painting the career bands on the Webelos Arrow of Light. One widely used scheme is set forth below:

Start with the Tiger/Orange stripe about ½” from the back of the arrow (fletchings), working your way to the tip. Space the bands about 1/8” apart. Finish at the tip/point of the arrow with the Arrow of Light stripe. One way to put the bands on is to use colored pin striping tape. Another way is by painting. Try putting the arrow in a drill, hold the brush steady and spin to apply band.
